Frederiksdal

Frederiksdalsvej 30, 4912 Harpelunde

Frederiksdal emerges from the mists of history as a small fortified farm called Grimsted, named after squire Jens Grim, the owner at the time. In 1752, Grimsted was purchased by dowager countess Ide Margrethe Knuth of Knuthenborg, who had previously acquired several large farms to establish the barony of Christiansdal for her son, Christian Fr. Knuth.

In 1756, she named the farm Frederiksdal, and two years later, the current 1,600 m² main estate, designed in Italian Rococo style, was constructed as the center of the barony. After her death in 1757, her son Christian took over, but his extravagant lifestyle and poor management quickly led to the estate's decline. Ironically, he ended up as the owner of the farm "Nøjsomhed" in the northwester corner of Lolland.

After more than 150 years and several different owners, Niels Krabbe bought the estate in 1957, and 17 years later, in 1974, his son Jon took over. Today, the estate is owned by the third generation, Harald Krabbe.
