Sophiedal was first mentioned in 1800 when Peder Hansen assumed ownership of the farm after his father. In 1852, the farm, which was then located in Højsmarke, burned down. After the fire, Peder Hansen sold the farm to his son-in-law, Gotfred Svendsen, who rebuilt it at its current location.
Gotfred Svendsen's widow, Ane Sophie Svendsen, had the name Sophiedal officially registered in 1883. After her death in 1906, the children, Gerhardt and Josephine Svendsen, took over the farm.
They sold Sophiedal to a nephew, Kay Seyer-Hansen, in 1936, and it was from the estate of Kay's widow, Nanna Seyer-Hansen, that the current owner, Michael Højgrav-Huus, purchased the farm in 1989.
